The Bath head office of national law firm Stone King is hosting three free webinars next week to support charities as they face huge challenges caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The webinars are part of an ongoing series staged during the crisis by Stone King, one of the UK’s top firms advising the charity sector.

At 10am on Wednesday, June 17, Dan Harris, head of the firm’s international & cross-border team, is running a session on cross-border legacies and, in particular, foreign inheritance tax for UK charities.

He said: “Using real case studies we will explore not only what can be done to avoid and mitigate foreign tax, but also how it is sometimes possible to retrospectively reclaim foreign taxes.”

The session will include examples from inside and outside the EU and will touch on the effects of Brexit.

At 2pm on the same day, the head of Stone King’s charity & social enterprise sector group, Tim Rutherford, will co-host a webinar aimed at almshouse charities alongside Elizabeth Fathi, director of almshouses at The Trust Partnership.

The hour-long session will cover ‘post-lockdown risk assessments and moving on’, including legal guidance and practical tips.

Managing finances during Covid-19 for charities and social enterprises, and how to overcome the serious financial challenges, is the theme of the webinar at 10:30am on Thursday, June 18.

Co-hosted with RSM, this session will cover a range of legal topics, such as change of trustees’ responsibilities, communication with stakeholders and using restricted funds or reserves, with finance topics including cashflow management, mitigating risk and potential liabilities in insolvency situations.

The webinar will be hosted by Tamsin Eastwood and Stephen Ravenscroft, partners respectively in Stone King’s corporate & commercial and charity & social enterprise team, along with RSM director of restructuring advisory Karen Spears.

National law firm Stone King is running a free webinar on managing finances during COVID-19 for charities and social enterprises. The hour-long session, which is being co-hosted with RSM, is running at 10.30am on Thursday 18 June.
