Law firm Stone King’s Bath-based family law team is offering free mediation information sessions to couples facing new year separation as an alternative to potentially painful court disputes.

The firm is staging the free half-hour appointments to coincide with Family Mediation Week, which runs from January 23 to 27.

Organised by the Family Mediators Association, the scheme’s aim is to enable separating couples to learn about the benefits of mediation and how it can help them resolve issues amicably. All appointments must be pre-booked in advance with Stone King.

Lawyer Rebecca Eels, pictured, one of Stone King’s four specially trained family mediators, said: “Sadly January is traditionally a time when large numbers of people take stock of their lives and decide to call time on their relationships. All too often the split is acrimonious with children caught in the middle.

“Family mediation can help couples resolve issues regarding their children, as well as important financial matters involving pensions, maintenance and property, without resorting to the courts.

“We are also trained to speak to children if parents agree so that couples can take their views on board when making crucial decisions about their family’s future.

“Mediation is therefore much less adversarial and often less costly than getting the court to decide, and provides solutions that are likely to be longer lasting for all the family.”

To book a free family mediation appointment with Stone King phone Rebecca Eels or John Brownrigg on 01225 324470 or email rebeccaeels@stoneking.co.uk or JohnBrownrigg@stoneking.co.uk
