Bath-headquartered national law firm Stone King has pledged to play its part in an initiative tackling racial inequality in the workplace.

The firm has signed up to the Race Fairness Commitment, an initiative by diversity recruitment specialists Rare, which aims to build fairness at work for people of all ethnic backgrounds.

As part of the pledge, Stone King,  which also has offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Leeds and London, is analysing data including recruitment and selection, staff retention, pay and promotion rates to identify and address obstacles faced by staff of black, Asian and minority ethnic heritage.

Stone King chair, and co-chair of its diversity, equality & inclusion group, Alison Allen, pictured, said: “As a firm it is really important to us that equality of opportunity is ingrained in all aspects of our work and culture.

“We recognise that equity is essential too by providing more support and help for those who are placed at a disadvantage, to ensure that everyone has the same opportunities to achieve their aspirations and full potential.”

As well as being signatories to the Race Fairness Commitment, Stone King is implementing regular round table staff discussions on workplace racial equality, is developing schools’ mentorship programmes and has established the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Headteachers’ Forum to look at the lack of diversity, inclusion and representation in the legal sector.

Stone King managing partner Steven Greenwood added: “Signing up to the Race Fairness Commitment reflects our values and zero-tolerance approach at Stone King to racial injustice.

“It strengthens our ongoing work and plans to make absolutely sure that all our team members, now and to come, can be confident that their rights and expectations to be treated fairly and with respect will be met.”

Stone King, which has had an office in Bath since 1785, is one of 45 UK law firms to sign up to London-based Rare’s Race Fairness Commitment.
