Chippenham specialist engineering and construction company M+W Group has acquired Senior Hargreaves, one of the UK’s leading providers of air movement and ventilation ductworks, for an undisclosed amount.

German-owned M+W, which develops clean room and specialist manufacturing environments, said the takeover of Bury-based Hargreaves was a logical step in its development.

M+W was established a century ago and today leads the world in engineering, construction and project management for the advanced technology facilities, life science and chemicals, energy and environment technologies and hi-tech infrastructure industries. It employs more than 7,000 people worldwide.

UK chief executive Peter Greenhalgh said: “The Hargreaves team has a long history and extensive experience in technology-based projects which fits well with our strategic plans for sustained growth in our target markets of science and research, technology manufacturing facilities and energy based programmes.”

Senior Hargreaves was founded in 1872, originally trading as Henry Hargreaves and Sons, prior to acquisition by the Senior Engineering in 1957. The Senior Hargreaves name has become synonymous with ventilation ductwork, and the company is renowned as a leading manufacturer and distributor of high-quality heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems with expertise across the nuclear, industrial, commercial, retail and leisure sectors.
