Bristol Airport operator Air Malta has brought forward the launch of its summer 2014 charter season by four weeks to satisfy demand from holidaymakers wanting to visit the Mediterranean island over the spring/Easter period.

The direct flights from Bristol will now start on April 8 and will continue weekly until October 21.

Air Malta, the country’s national carrier, said there had been a noticeable increase in demand for off-peak holidays and those in the so-called shoulder season – the period between low and high seasons.

Bristol Airport aviation director Shaun Browne said: “We are delighted with Air Malta’s decision to extend the flying season for this summer. The additional flights commencing in early April offer passengers the opportunity of booking flights to coincide with the Easter holidays.

“Malta provides a wealth of historical and cultural options for visitors, as well as enjoying a great climate for sun seekers.”
