Each week Bath Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word. This week Debbie Boulton, managing director of Bath accountancy firm Richardson Swift, answers our 10 questions.

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? I had a rare trip to the cinema on New Year’s Eve to watch The King’s Man. It was very good and historically pretty accurate (although I only know this after a lot of googling afterwards!)

Book you read? I’ve just finished The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. It’s thought provoking, imagine if you could change some of your past choices and create a different version of your life….What would you change?

Music you bought or downloaded? I listen to a lot more podcasts these days than I do music… favourites are Happy Place, Her Spirit and Grounded with Louis Theroux. I have been known to laugh out loud and cry on runs depending on what I’m listening to!

Concert or play you went to? I saw JLS on their reunion tour in November. My daughter and I had seen them back in 2009 and thought we’d relive the experience. They were still able to do their trademark backflips!

Sporting event you attended? No professional events recently – but I do play hockey most weekends so I attend my own games!

Holiday you went on? We managed to get a last-minute week away to Ibiza in August – not somewhere I would normally visit, but as the clubs were closed it was less of a party island in 2021!

Restaurant you ate in? We try and eat in local independently owned restaurants, especially given recent times. Cappadocia is a favourite of ours and I want to try The Moorfields but it’s always fully booked! Always a good sign!

Thing that annoyed you? My daughter testing positive for Covid for the second time…. Need I say more?!

Thing that made you laugh out loud? My cat Elsa – we put ‘Cat TV’ on the television and watching her trying to catch a mouse on the screen was good fun! Although she did take it too far and bought a real mouse in for us that evening . .

Piece of good advice you were given? I debated the new MD role with a close friend who gave me the confidence to take it on, reminding me of what I’ve accomplished to date and what I could give the role. I’m so pleased I did take it on as I’m really excited about leading Richardson Swift into the future.

Debbie Boulton became the first managing director of Bath accountancy firm Richardson Swift last month after being a director of the firm for seven years. She also leads Richardson Swift’s client advisory team. Working with a varied client base of small owner-managed businesses, Debbie advises owners on their growth strategies and keeps them on track of their goals.
