Each week Bath Business News lets a prominent member of the area’s business community have the last word on its weekly e-bulletin.

This week Dr Markas Gilmartin, founding partner of Epoch Wealth Management, answers our 10 questions

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? Dead Man’s Shoes. It’s a hard-hitting British revenge thriller with a great music score, great acting and cinematography but a very bleak message.

Book you read? Consilience by E O Wilson. He’s a leading sociobiologist and the book explains his single theory to describe everything. It was hard work but it’s good that people are tackling difficult subjects.

Music you bought? It was music by Angel Olsen. It’s alt-folk music and she’s like a punk version of Vera Lynn! I love her passion.

Concert you went to? Slint at the Green Man Festival. They pioneered mass rock and influenced bands like Nirvana. They were off the Richter scale.

Sporting event you attended? The boules tournament in Bath. It was great fun and a good opportunity to meet like-minded professionals.

Holiday you went on? Venice. It’s drenched in history. Vivaldi used to play in small music halls there and you can feel his presence. The effect of the water, light and buildings is unique. And there are no cars!

Restaurant you ate in? Sotto Sotto in Bath. They serve terrific authentic Italian food, the staff are ultra-friendly and helpful and it’s got a great atmosphere.

Thing that annoyed you? Repeated reporting of the USA World Cup team lacking talent – they were great!

Thing that made you laugh out loud? Little Britain’s Andy and Lou go to church in America. I love their brand of anarchic, observational comedy.

Piece of good advice you were given? It’s not what you look like – it’s what you see.

A biotechnologist by training, Dr Markas Gilmartin is a founding partner of Bath-based Epoch Wealth Management and has been a practicing financial planner since 1996. He is a fellow of both the Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) and the Personal Finance Society (PFS), part of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). He is also a big music fan, with alternative country music at the top of his playlist right now, an amateur wine and football enthusiast and a fanatical birder.
