Third acquisition by hotel group Bath Boutique as it builds portfolio of upmarket B&Bs

Bath Boutique Ltd has opened its third bed-and-breakfast in the city as it pursues its plan to build a portfolio of luxury small hotels.

The firm behind Brindleys and Grays has bought the 10-bedroom One Three Nine on the Wells Road and converted it into a distinctive boutique B&B. Funding for the acquisition – the latest in a flurry of activity in Bath’s hotel market – came from the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Bath Boutique, which was set up by Michael and Sarah Jones, bought the six-bedroom Brindleys Boutique B&B in 2011 and added the 12-bedroom Grays two years later. The business now employs 25 staff across its three properties.
Sarah sources the properties and organises the refurbishments while Michael manages the finance and marketing side of the business.

Michael said: “We are very pleased with what we have achieved in the last five years and with the introduction of One Three Nine, this will help grow the business significantly.

“Bath is a city that is highly competitive for our industry but we do feel we have tapped into the right market for UK and overseas visitors looking for something a little bit special.

Royal Bank of Scotland relationship director Steven Perrett added: “Bath attracts a high number of visitors year on year, all choosing to visit this Georgian city and explore what it has to offer, not only in terms of history but also for its high end accommodation.

“We have no doubt Michael and Sarah have acquired a prime target hotel, which is already proving a sound investment and complements the other two properties perfectly.”

Financial details of the acquisition or the bank funding have been disclosed.

Last week Bath Business News revealed that the newly formed company Bath Hospitality Ltd had acquired the 14-bedroom Aquae Sulis hotel on Newbridge Road.

Earlier this year the former Grade I listed Carfax Hotel was acquired by the owners of the city’s Abbey Hotel and Villa Magdala and is being transformed into a luxury boutique hotel.

Hundreds of bedrooms are also being added through new hotels in the former Pratt’s Hotel and The Halcyon, as part of the Sawclose casino development and on James Street West.
