Actress Stephanie Cole OBE is urging businesses and individuals to mark World Cancer Day next Monday by making a donation to the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group (BCUSG).

Stephanie, pictured, best known for her roles in the TV sitcoms Still Open All Hours and Waiting for God, is president of the BCUSG, which provides a range of equipment and facilities for cancer patients at Bath’s Royal United Hospital (RUH).

The BCUSG is looking to just under £370,000 for three new projects that will improve outcomes for cancer patients. They include an out-of-hours helpline for chemotherapy outpatients, equipment to target radiotherapy more accurately and funds to upgrade a solid-state gamma camera, which will provide better images for cancer diagnosis.

Stephanie, who lives near Bath, said: “The BCUSG has an army of volunteers who work tirelessly to support local cancer patients by raising money for vital equipment not provided by the NHS.

“So to mark World Cancer Day on February 4, we are calling on people and businesses in Bath and those areas of Somerset, Wiltshire and South Gloucestershire that fall within the RUH catchment area, to help us reach our fundraising target and improve the outlook for many more people with cancer.”

To make a donation to the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group Appeal visit www.bcusg.org, email fundraising@bcusg.org or phone 07896 741233.
