Owners and directors of small and medium-sized manufacturers in the Bath area are being invited to a free workshop to gain expert advice on a range of financial issues.

Staged by the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) in partnership with business and financial advisors Grant Thornton, the event in Bristol on January 28 will help companies understand the best options for accessing finance, tapping into alternative funding streams and unravelling the tax implications of innovation and expansion.

There will be an opportunity for attendees to share experiences and receive one-to-one confidential support to focus on any issues identified.

On the agenda at the Financial Expert: Manufacturing workshop will be:

  • Options for financing growth
  • How to capitalise on R&D and Intellectual Property tax relief
  • How to protect cash and minimise working capital
  • How to plan for succession and keep talent without denting your budget
  • How to optimise financial operations overseas
  • How to manage supply chain risks to safeguard your business

MAS South West England director Simon Howes, pictured, said: “The economic upturn is presenting ambitious manufacturers with opportunities to grow. But if firms plan to expand and diversify their operations they must ensure the right foundations are in place so that growth is sustainable.

“The event will give businesses a chance to hear the latest industry-leading financial advice and guidance, ensuring they underpin future success with a sound financial strategy.”

Grant Thornton South West head of manufacturing Mark Aldridge added: “Our region has superb credentials in manufacturing, particularly in the fields of engineering and design, and also through the many famous food and drink brands which are exported around the world. Thankfully manufacturing is now at the forefront of the UK’s growth strategy and initiatives such as the ‘Financial Expert’ event aim to help businesses to seize the opportunity.”

The event, at Grant Thornton’s Bristol office from 9.15am-2pm, is aimed particularly at owners and financial and managing directors of manufacturing businesses with a minimum turnover of £1m. The workshop is restricted to 25 people and places are available on a first come, first served basis.
