Businesses in Bath are being consulted on proposed changes to the way their waste is collected, including mandatory use of reusable bags or bins that must also be labelled with the business’s name.
In addition, Bath & North East Somerset Council (B&NES) is proposing to alter evening collections times for business waste.
The council says the moves are aimed at improving cleanliness in the city centre and enhancing it for residents and visitors.
Under the changes, the streets would be clear of waste between 10am and 6pm – also removing hazards on the pavement and deterring vermin.
Businesses are being asked for their views on changing the current collection window from between 5pm and 8.45pm to 6pm-8pm. The 7.30am-10am collection window would remain unchanged.
B&NES cabinet member for neighbourhood services, Cllr Tim Ball, said the proposed business waste collection changes aimed to improve public spaces in central Bath for residents and visitors by ensuring cleaner and safer streets.
“We acknowledge that changing the collection times may impact the way businesses operate and their staffing levels, so we are inviting feedback from as many businesses as possible in order to get this right,” he added.
“Please drop in to one of our sessions to find out more and tell us what you think via the consultation.”
The consultation will remain live on the council website until Sunday, March 30. There will also drop-in sessions for businesses at Studio 22 in New Bond Street from 10am to 4pm on Thursday, 6 March and Thursday, 20 March.
